About this role


Be part of an iconic event that celebrates agriculture, entertainment, and community as a Livestock Pavilion Attendant. You will play an important role in supporting the smooth running of livestock competitions. This role involves completing a variety of general labour and operational tasks within the pavilion and surrounding areas. You will be working in and around a range of animals, including cattle, sheep, alpacas, horses, and goats, while ensuring the highest standards of safety, cleanliness, and organisation.


Key responsibilities


Under direction:

* General tasks pertaining to the set-up of the Livestock Precinct including relocating office and event supplies to the Livestock Pavilion, lifting of heavy fencing, rubber matting, storage boxes and small items of furniture (tables, chairs etc).
* Provide assistance with livestock arrivals and departures. This includes directing trucks, exhibitors and movement of animals.
* Undertake cleaning and general maintenance items within the Livestock Pavilion and the precinct. This includes removal of animal waste (sheep, goat, cattle, horse) using shovels and wheelbarrows, moving sand onto high traffic areas to avoid slippage, sweeping and removal of straw, sand and rubbish.
* Ensure wash facilities are kept clean and tidy, including hosing down of outdoor concrete areas to remove animal waste, straw and rubbish.
* Ensure that public and back of house areas are free of animal waste, rubbish, boxes, including both indoor and outdoor areas.
* Direct the public within the Pavilion to ensure they move through safe thoroughfares away from large livestock.
* Direct the exhibitors with cattle to ensure they move livestock through access laneways away from members of the public.
* Report any major maintenance items, health and safety concerns to the Superintendent.
* Assist with general inquiries from exhibitors and public.
* Assist with closures of Pavilions to the public.
* General duties as required.


Key competencies of the role



Essential Skills & Experience:

* Comfortable working in a livestock environment, with strong animal smells and noises.
* Understanding that handling of animal faeces using shovels and wheelbarrows is required.
* Physically fit and able to do a labour-intensive job with extended periods of standing.


Qualifications & Knowledge:

Personal Attributes:

* Good organisational skills such as communication (speaking and listening).

* Ability to work within tight deadlines.
* Awareness of health and safety requirements.
* Self-motivated to identify tasks and duties requiring attention.
* Ability to work independently and in a team
* Attention to detail.


Training and Support Plan

* Mandatory online Occupational Health and Safety Induction Program
* Mandatory on-site Staff Induction Training


Role Details

* Event Dates: 19 Sept Oct 2025 (must be fully available)
* Location: Ascot Vale
* Shifts: Rotational between 06:00 - 22:00
* Pay Rate: $30 - $31 per hour
