MES Automation Layer Electrical Engineer - Newcastle

This role is based at our Newcastle Rod Mill and focuses on maintaining and improving the MES Automation Layer and supporting critical automation systems.
Responsibilities
* Provide technical support for PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, sensors, drives, and advanced instrumentation.
* Troubleshoot breakdowns and investigate root causes to drive long-term reliability improvements.
* Collaborate with production, maintenance, and process teams to optimise control and tracking systems.
* Assist in implementing machine learning, vision systems, and other digital transformation initiatives.
* Support system upgrades and ensure all changes are well-documented and aligned with business standards.
* Contribute to the development of maintenance strategies and manage critical spares and system documentation.
* Work across MES system interfaces (including PSI and SAP EWM) to ensure seamless production tracking.
Qualifications
* A degree in Electrical, Mechatronics, or Automation Engineering (or a related field).
* Experience working with industrial control systems (PLCs, HMIs, SCADA).
* Safety as a core value and understanding of legislative safety requirements.
* Strong troubleshooting skills and a methodical approach to root cause analysis.
* Familiarity with MES systems, process automation, or data-driven technologies (desirable).
* The ability to adapt to change and manage competing priorities.
* A passion for continuous improvement and digital innovation.
* Strong communication skills and the ability to work across multi-disciplinary teams.
