The opportunity
We are currently seeking a Senior Control System Engineer to join our site-based Operational Technology team, responsible for leading the integration and implementation of the process control system.
To be successful in the role you will have proven experience as a Control Systems Engineer in a mineral processing plant and equipment environment, with experience working across all areas of PLC and SCADA control systems.
This position operates on an 8 days on 6 days off day shift roster, FIFO from Perth or DIDO from Geraldton.
To be successful in the role, the following is essential:
- An Electrical Engineering or Computer Science degree
- GE Proficy Machine Edition version 9.5 programming software, training and experience
- Fieldbus training
- Demonstrated experience using maintenance management systems and in particular SAP based systems
- Experience with Electrical and Instrumentation(E&I;) equipment
- Industrial Ethernet networking experience
- Electrical, electronic and data communications knowledge, Profibus DP and PA. Modbus/TCP and 4-20mA
- National Police clearance

Key Duties (but not limited to) :-
- Develop the planning and execution of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) on all KML sites
- Provide technical knowledge and expertise on Process Control Systems, standards and specialised maintenance for plant improvement and projects which will in turn support Electrical and Instrumentation Technicians
- Develop and maintain the Process Control System identifying improvement opportunities and upholding documentation and controls system procedures
- Perform breakdown response, corrective maintenance and configuration on the Process Control System and associated equipment with a range of PLC/SCADA/RTU and applications
- Configure and maintain HV/LV Protection System and critical equipment (SEL relays, RTAC’s, Sepam and GE D20 RTU’s).
- Configure and maintain Process control network and communications protocol (Modbus TCP/IP, Ethernet/IP and Profibus)
- Investigate any downtime events caused by control systems and provide details reports on root causes
- Support the configuration and maintenance of the plant historian and associated software packages contributing to the Manufacturing Execution System (MES)
About Karara Mining
Located 200 km south-east of Geraldton in the Shire of Perenjori, Western Australia Karara has an expected mine life of 30+ years. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks. As part of the logistics network Karara owns and operates 80km of railway between Tilley Junction and the Karara mine site, linking the Karara Export Terminal at the Port of Geraldton, able to handle up to 16 Mtpa of export product from a dedicated berth, with associated rail and train unloading infrastructure.
