Winseed is seeking a motivated and experienced Research Technician / Officer to support our Research & Development programme. The Research Technician / Officer will play a key role in supporting and executing vegetable breeding projects, contributing directly to the strength and success of Winseed's breeding programme. Working as part of a collaborative research team, this role supports activities across multiple stages of the Breeding, Research and Product Testing programmes, with primary focus on delivering high-quality outcomes within the Breeding programme.
About the Role
As our Research Technician / Officer, you will:
* Execute assigned activities related to crop breeding projects in accordance with breeder protocols and agreed project plans.
* Provide operational support and supervision for crop management activities, including field preparation, trial layout, sowing, controlled crossing, seed production and crop evaluation.
* Prepare and maintain accurate field books, submit crop updates and trial/tour reports as required.
* Manage and maintain seed inventory, ensuring accurate tracking, storage and documentation.
* Ensure timely and accurate data collection, entry into designated software systems, and submission of seasonal reports for both in-house and external trial locations.
* Monitor field activities to ensure efficient resource use and effective cost control.
* Collaborate cross-functionally within the Research & Development team.
Due to the seasonal nature of breeding operations, tasks will vary throughout the year.
About You
We're looking for someone who is:
* Degree in Plant Biology, Plant Breeding, Agronomy, Crop Production or similar
* Technically knowledgeable in plant systems, seeds and hybrid seed production
* Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors and in glasshouse environments
* Practical, hands-on and solutions-focused
* Able to follow instructions and meet deadlines
* Self-motivated while also being a strong team contributor
* A clear communicator who keeps stakeholders informed
* Holder of a Full Class 1 driver's licence
Desirable Skills
* Growsafe/Certified Handler certificate
* Experience in the vegetable or seed production industry
* Experience within Research & Development environments
