As we continue to scale our platform and product capability, we are looking for a Software Development Manager to lead our engineering function and drive the next phase of growth.
About the opportunity
Based at our HQ in Canberra, this is a senior leadership role sitting at the intersection of technology, product and execution.
Reporting to the CEO, you will lead the software engineering function owning delivery cadence, technical direction and team performance.
This is a true player‐coach role. You will be responsible for enabling the team to do their best work, while also contributing technically through architecture, code reviews, and key engineering decisions.
Success in this role requires someone who can bring structure and discipline to delivery, while operating with the pragmatism and flexibility required in a scaling technology business.
In this role, you will:
* Own and drive the software development methodology, ensuring predictable and high-quality delivery
* Lead sprint planning, backlog management, and agile processes across the engineering team
* Translate product and business priorities into well-scoped, executable engineering work
* Contribute hands‐on through code reviews and technical problem solving
* Lead, coach, and develop a team of software engineers
* Manage delivery timelines, risks, and trade‐offs across multiple workstreams
* Coordinate releases across web, mobile, and backend platforms
* Work closely with product, hardware, and operations teams to ensure alignment and execution
About you
You are a technically credible engineering leader who enjoys building teams, improving delivery, and building high-quality software.
You bring a balance of leadership and hands‐on capability - comfortable setting direction while also diving into the detail when required.
You thrive in environments where structure needs to be built, processes need to be improved, and outcomes matter more than theory.
Specifically, we're looking for candidates with:
* Experience leading and managing software engineering teams (ideally 5+ engineers)
* Strong working knowledge of agile/scrum methodologies and sprint delivery
* Proven ability to plan, scope, and execute engineering work across multiple streams
* Experience coaching and developing engineers at different levels
* Technical credibility across full- stack development, architecture, and system design
* Strong communication skills and ability to bridge technical and business contexts
* Experience delivering software products across web, mobile, or cloud platforms
And bonus points for:
* Experience in SaaS or subscription‐based products
* Exposure to hardware‐integrated software environments
* Experience building or scaling engineering processes in a growing company
* Familiarity with sports technology or performance environments
