Project Overview

Job Summary
The Senior Materials Management Specialist provides expertise, advice, and direction for project and field materials management activities during the study or execution phases of the project to ensure overall organizational effectiveness among all functions responsible for the materials management process. Establishes policy and monitors and approves the development of execution plans involving automated and manual material management and inventory control systems in accordance with project and corporate processes and procedures. Plans, directs, coordinates, and monitors personnel actions for material management staff (where applicable). This position is designated as part-time telework and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project.
Major Responsibilities
* Provide operational direction to project materials management personnel across office and field teams.
* Maintain strong stakeholder alignment across Project Management, Engineering, Construction, Procurement, Project Controls, and the Customer.
* Coordinate with Construction and Procurement to ensure accurate material identification, timely availability, and site readiness, including specialised equipment handling.
* Liaise with contractors to define and support material, logistics, and installation requirements.
* Monitor project schedules to ensure materials meet delivery timelines; assess impacts of changes and support contingency planning.
* Ensure adherence to the project execution plan and sequencing of key activities.
* Collaborate with Engineering to identify equipment and bulk materials, ensuring data compatibility across systems.
* Support automation/data integration across Engineering and Supply Chain systems.
* Oversee requisitioning, pre‐buy strategies, and procurement progress to align with project schedules.
* Identify risks to material timelines, including approval delays and engineering deliverables.
* Issue and maintain the Material Responsibility Matrix (MRM).
* Develop and implement the Materials Management Plan in line with corporate standards.
* Interface between Construction and Procurement for design changes, rework, or scope adjustments.
* Monitor procurement performance to maintain milestone schedules.
* Ensure effective material warehousing, handling, control, and issue at site.
* Support training, development, performance reviews, and workforce planning (where applicable).
* Lead development and compliance of Field Material Procedures.
Education and Experience Requirements
* Bachelors degree (or international equivalent) and minimum of years relevant experience or years relevant work experience.
* Experience and skill in supervision, including selection, hiring, training, development and performance evaluation.
* Advanced knowledge of all procurement operations related to the management of materials at area, regional, temporary and jobsite office locations.
* Advanced knowledge in Field Engineering and Construction activities, and knowledge of Standard Work Process Procedures related to materials management functions.
* Advanced knowledge of all Engineering disciplines, the work process and the deliverables produced.
* Experience with applicable Bechtel policies, instructions, and Procurement procedures and guidelines highly desirable.
* Knowledge and experience in the use of digital supply chain systems, Engineering tools and other project data systems.
* Prior experience in major global, direct hire and contract management projects, which include Engineering, Procurement and materials control activities.
Required Knowledge and Skills
* Experience and skill in supervision, including selection, hiring, training, development and performance evaluation.
* Advanced knowledge of all procurement operations related to the management of materials at area, regional, temporary and jobsite office locations.
* Advanced experience in coordinating with Construction and Field Procurement, the plans for material identification, material availability in support of installation plans, and equipment requiring special handling at the site.
