About the role
This is a full-time, ongoing position primarily based at our Port Melbourne office, with hybrid working arrangements that vary in line with operational needs.
In this role, you'll provide technical leadership and operational oversight for Life Saving Victoria's Remote Pilot Aircraft Systems (RPAS) capability. You'll play a critical part in ensuring safe, compliant and effective drone operations that support emergency response, training and community safety initiatives.
Working closely with internal teams, volunteers and external stakeholders, you will contribute to the ongoing development, governance and performance of LSV's aerial capability.
In this role, you will:
* Lead and oversee RPAS operations to ensure safe, compliant and effective delivery across training, emergency response and community safety activities
* Provide technical expertise and guidance on aviation safety, regulatory compliance and operational best practice
* Plan, approve and monitor drone operations, including complex or high‐risk missions
* Support the integration of aerial capability into emergency response and incident management activities
* Strengthen workforce capability by supporting training, accreditation and ongoing development of remote pilots
* Contribute to the governance and continuous improvement of LSV's RPAS program, including safety systems, procedures and performance insights
About you
You are an experienced aviation or RPAS professional with strong technical expertise and a commitment to safety, compliance and operational excellence. You are confident working in dynamic environments and enjoy contributing to meaningful community safety outcomes.
You will bring:
* A current Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) with relevant endorsements
* Demonstrated experience in RPAS operations within emergency services, aviation or similar operational settings
* Strong understanding of CASA Part 101 regulations and aviation safety frameworks
* Proven ability to make sound decisions in high pressure or complex operational environments
* Experience in safety management, risk mitigation and compliance systems
* Strong communication, leadership and stakeholder engagement skills
* Experience in lifesaving, emergency services and/or training and assessment in an aviation or RPAS environment would be highly regarded
* A current Victorian Employee Working with Children Check, or willingness to obtain one
