Role Overview
The National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) is seeking a leader to drive the agency's engagement efforts with First Nations communities in Tasmania. This leadership role involves building and maintaining strong partnerships, managing a team, and providing strategic policy and program advice.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop and implement strategies to engage with First Nations communities, identify priorities, and broker local solutions to support self-determination aspirations.
* Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders across government, First Nations communities, peak bodies, and the private sector.
* Manage a team, prioritise workload, mentor, and coach staff to achieve project objectives.
* Provide high-quality briefings and correspondence to support ministers and senior executives.
* Support the strategic delivery of NIAA funded activities in Tasmania, conduct risk identification and management.
Requirements:
* Demonstrated experience working with First Nations people in a culturally sensitive manner and a desire to support self-determined approaches.
* Strong engagement and stakeholder management skills across government, First Nations communities, peak bodies, and the private sector.
* Sound analytical, research, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to provide policy and program advice and identify emerging risks.
* Strong leadership, emotional intelligence, and interpersonal skills.
* Experience in managing teams, including allocating workload, monitoring performance, mentoring, and coaching staff.
* Strong written communication skills with experience in drafting high-quality briefings, correspondence, and advice.
* Experience in managing program delivery.
* Demonstrated understanding of issues affecting First Nations communities in Tasmania and commitment to ensuring a culturally safe workplace.
Must have a current motor vehicle driver's license and be able to undertake intra-state travel.
