About Us
Waijungbah Jarjums embodies Gold Coast Health's commitment to the development of culturally and socially sensitive care for the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
Co-led and co-designed by the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, Waijungbah Jarjums provides a community based one-stop hub for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and babies across the first 5 years with a continuity of midwifery care group practice, child health nurses, allied health and health workers.
All permanent staff within the Waijungbah Jarjums model of care identify as either Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. It was identified early in the community consultation that the local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community wanted to be cared for by their own people as this provides cultural safety, facilitates the sharing of innate cultural knowledge, minimises the risk of 'shame', and increases engagement in services and outcomes.
