About the Group
Strategy and Secondary School Reform (SSSR) group supports the department to maintain its
intensive focus on delivery, performance and engagement in order to deliver the Education
State reform agenda and the department's strategic intent. The group aligns policy leadership
with strategy, planning, governance, and performance to enable evidence-informed decisions
that drive current and future system-wide reforms and improve outcomes for all Victorians.
About the Division
The Performance and Evaluation Division (PED) collects, analyses and disseminates high-
quality evidence to influence decision making across the Department, government
agencies and service providers to improve outcomes for children, young people and adult
learners. The Division operates to deliver a set of connected services to provide the right
information to the right people at the right time.
About the Branch
The Monitoring and Evaluation Branch enables better decisions by turning monitoring and
evaluation into timely, trusted, decision-ready insight. The branch has 3 other teams - portfolio
monitoring and reporting, evaluation and investment analytics who oversee initiatives funded
through the early intervention investment framework, and the Australian early development
census team.
About the role
The Senior Evaluation Officer works as part of a team to deliver evaluation advice, facilitate
evaluation commissioning, support high-quality evaluation and monitor evaluation activity
across the department. This includes working with internal and external stakeholders, building
the department's evaluation capability, and reviewing or producing reports, advice, and
syntheses to support senior executives.
Key responsibilities
-delivery of high-quality written communications, including briefings, reports, meeting notes,
evidence syntheses, to support senior decision makers
- advising program teams about their evaluation requirements and assisting with evaluation
design, planning, and commissioning
- contributing to evaluation projects
- other tasks as required.
The successful candidate will need to have a strong attention to detail, be able to establish and
maintain relationships, building trust through consistent actions, produce high-quality
work, communicate effectively, interpret and apply policies
The following are desirable:
- Qualifications and/or experience designing evaluation or social research projects
- Organisational knowledge and understanding of the policy and funding cycles
