Home Hill State High School is seeking a keen and enthusiastic Agricultural Assistant to join our team.
This role is offered on a permanent full-time basis. You will have the opportunity to:
* Contribute to the effective operation of the school by providing high-level agricultural systems support to staff.
* Maintain agricultural field study sites, animals, crops, machinery, and equipment used by the school in a functional, secure, and safe manner.
About Home Hill State High School
Our new Agricultural Precinct includes a fully automated plant growing and protected cropping structure (greenhouse), fertigation room, onsite teaching space, packing shed, and cold room. The precinct also features a 0.6ha Dig INN plot, beehives, mango plantation, aquaponics setup with crayfish farm and vegetable beds, an orchard, poultry housing, and host-plant trial plots planned for future development.
We are seeking a full-time team member to support these facilities, contribute to their development, and assist our agricultural teachers. The successful candidate will help prepare and maintain operations safely and efficiently. Please see the attached role description for more details.
About The Role
This is an OO2 progression position. The successful applicant will be appointed at the OO2 classification with potential to progress to OO3 upon meeting specific criteria. The salary rate reflects the OO2 to OO3 range.
Agricultural Assistants handle general farm operations, including preparing fields, machinery, and equipment. They plant, water, and care for crops and gardens, apply insecticides and fertilizers, and care for animals, ensuring enclosures are clean. They assist with crop yields, ordering supplies, and soil and crop improvements.
Their maintenance duties include preparing and maintaining study sites, servicing machinery, and keeping farm facilities tidy and functional. They manage stock of chemicals and fuels, handle animal waste disposal, and oversee deliveries and stocktakes.
In educational settings, they support teaching activities by organizing materials, assisting during practical classes, and monitoring safety and first aid.
