Job Description:
The Sydney Morning Herald is seeking an experienced, creative video storyteller to produce compelling content for Australia's leading news mastheads. This role involves working with journalists, producers, and editors across the country to originate high-quality video content that reflects our editorial values and reaches audiences via our digital publications and social platforms.
This position plays a key role in driving video views across all our platforms and delivering high levels of audience engagement. The successful candidate will lead end-to-end digital content production, stay current with digital trends, and use data and audience insights to improve content.
Responsibilities include:
* Leading end-to-end digital content production, including shooting, editing, and publishing video and audio content
* Producing bespoke video content across all digital platforms
* Discovering trending social video content to share on and off platforms
* Publishing video content to The Sydney Morning Herald digital platforms, applying strong editorial judgment
* Actively contributing to editorial discussions and pitching original ideas
* Managing cross-platform publishing and monitoring audience analytics
This role requires weekend work.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have:
* Demonstrated experience in video production, from camera setup and direction to editing and motion design
* Ability to think quickly and act decisively in a fast-paced news environment, prioritizing and meeting tight deadlines
* Skilled in Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, Audition)
* A proactive team player attitude, always looking to innovate, learn, and push creative boundaries
* Excellent production and post-production skills
* An understanding of digital content delivery and workflows
* Strong understanding of principles of journalism
* Proven knowledge of video editing techniques
* Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud is desirable
