Cadet Building Surveyor

About the role:
An exciting opportunity has become available for a Cadet Building Surveyor to join the Building Services team with the City of Canning on a temporary full-time basis. The Cadet Building Surveyor will assist City Officers in the assessment of applications as well as carrying out verge permit assessments, various inspections, processing of archive search applications and liaising with external customers. The Cadet role enables the successful candidate to study while working within a progressive Council.
A snapshot of your new role:
* Assess building applications for compliance with the Building Code of Australia in an efficient manner, under direction from Senior Officer.
* Inspect buildings as required
* Assess building applications for compliance with the Residential Design Codes.
* Support the administrative functions of the Department, by conducting archive searches for building plans and liaising with internal and external customers.
* Creating a work environment that is consistent with the Organisation's vision and values.
How you will thrive in this role:
* Enrolment (or intention to enrol) in a recognised building surveying course such as the Advanced Diploma in Building Surveying or higher qualification and actively studying towards that qualification that will lead to recognition as a Building Surveyor (level 3, 2 or 1).
* General knowledge of the Building Code of Australia, Building Act 2011 & Building Regulations 2012.
* A high standard of verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to interpret plans or technical drawing and interpret and apply the Residential Planning Codes (R-Codes).
