The Opportunity
We have an opportunity for a Senior Agricultural Officer to be part of our South Australian Research and Development Institute Division within the Department of Primary Industries and Regions.
Purpose
The Senior Agricultural Officer is part of the Vetch Breeding Program within the Crop Sciences Division which is part of the South Australian Research and Development Institute.
The Senior Agricultural Officer is responsible for developing and leading the field operational components of the Vetch breeding Program.
The Senior Agricultural Officer is responsible for providing skilled assistance to the Vetch Breeding Program, reporting to the Senior Research Officer, Vetch Breeding. In particular, the Senior Agricultural Officer is accountable for the integration of field operations with all other aspects of the breeding program this is essential for achieving the required outcomes.
The Senior Agricultural Officer is required to work closely as part of a team to ensure all milestones of the program are met.

Special Conditions
* Successful applicant will be required to satisfactorily complete a National Police Check (NPC) prior to being made an offer of employment.
* Opportunity up to October 2026.
* Full time opportunity, 37.5 hours per week.
Requirements
* Possession of a current driver's licence, heavy vehicle licence, forklift licence and willingness to drive.
* Out of hours work and inter / intrastate travel may be required, including overnight stays.
* Australian residency or current works permit is required (responsibility of applicant to provide evidence of a current work permit).
* You acknowledge your work, health and safety obligations and our expectations when applying for a role.
* The incumbent will be required to undertake emergency management training and must be willing to participate in emergency preparedness, response and recovery activities required by government agencies.
* An ability to operate and maintain equipment used in field crop research, as well as the skills to instruct others in safe work practices associated with this kind of equipment and machinery.
* Management of resources, chemicals and consumables purchased and available for use in all field operations as required.
* This position involves field work and exposure to dust and pollen.
* You acknowledge your work, health and safety obligations and our expectations.
* good knowledge of maintenance and operation of field trial machinery, particularly Winterstieger harvesters.
* Use of common agriculture chemicals is required and a Chemcert chemical handler's certificate or a willingness to obtain one is essential.
Qualifications
Essential: Nil
Desirable:
* experience in conducting the operational management of agricultural research trials.
* strong mechanical aptitude or qualifications will be looked upon favourably.
Remuneration
OPS4 - $76,561 min - $80,256 max per annum, plus superannuation
