About the role
Join the team at Nicholson Civil Pty Ltd as a full-time expiranced pit builder/drainer based in Rockhampton, Queensland. This is a hands-on role where you will be assisting with the installation of underground utilities and site preparation for residential and commercial construction projects.
Job Responsibilities
Supervising a Small Crew
* Leading a small team in the installation of stormwater, sewer, and water mains.
* Assigning tasks to workers and ensuring proper workflow.
Pipe Laying & Construction Work
* Excavating and preparing trenches for pipe installation.
* Installing pipes, pits, and rendering as required.
* Ensuring proper alignment, slope, and joint sealing of pipes.
Material Ordering & Coordination
* Ordering concrete, gravel, and other construction materials.
* Ensuring timely delivery of materials to avoid project delays.
General Labouring Duties
* Assisting with site preparation, cleanup, and maintenance.
* Operating hand tools and basic machinery as needed.
Safety Compliance
* Following all site safety regulations and procedures.
* Identifying and mitigating potential hazards on-site.
Contributing to Project Success
* Ensuring the quality and efficiency of pipe installations.
* Coordinating with engineers, site managers, and other workers.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Experience:
* At least 2 years of experience in civil pit building/pipe laying.
Technical Skills:
* Ability to read and interpret site plans and engineering drawings.
* Familiarity with different pipe materials and installation techniques.
Safety Awareness:
* Strong understanding of workplace safety regulations.
* Knowledge of safe excavation and trenching practices.
Physical Fitness:
* Must be physically fit, as the job involves manual labor, lifting, and working in various weather conditions.
Teamwork & Reliability:
* Must work well in a team environment and follow site instructions.
* Adaptability to different job site conditions.
Certifications & Licenses:
* White Card (Construction Induction Training) – required for working on construction sites.
* Driver's License – for transportation to and from job sites.
