Job Purpose This role sits within the EHS team and has responsibility for all Australian facilities, supporting the team across office based (including hybrid), warehouse, laboratory, and customer mining operations. The position requires regular travel to operational sites and involves a high level of interaction with senior leaders, site management, and employees. Job Duties and Responsibilities
As an EHS Specialist with MTS, you will support, implement, and continuously improve EHS programs across the business. Key responsibilities include:
* Developing and reviewing EHS policies and procedures, aligning with Komatsu standards where possible.
* Identifying and escalating EHS risks, gaps, and non-compliance to the EHS Manager.
* Providing advice, engagement, and support to supervisors, managers, and employees on EHS matters.
* Monitoring legislative requirements and ensuring ongoing compliance with Australian EHS and workers' compensation laws
* Developing and delivering EHS training and induction programs for employees, contractors, and visitors.
* Managing injury and illness reporting, incident investigations, return-to-work programs, and workers' compensation support.
* Leading EHS communications, including toolbox talks, safety alerts, and committee facilitation.
* Conducting audits, inspections, and reviews, and supporting corrective and disciplinary actions in collaboration with HR.
* Supporting risk assessments, JSAs, emergency preparedness, fire safety, and industrial hygiene monitoring.
* Maintaining EHS records, databases, SDS systems, and reporting obligations.
* Supporting regulatory inspections and customer EHS requirements.
* Promoting health, wellbeing, ergonomics, and a proactive safety culture.
* Collaborating across business units and ensuring compliance with corporate and customer EHS standards.
* Maintaining strict confidentiality at all times.
Required Skills
* Diploma in Safety, Environmental Management, or equivalent.
* Strong knowledge of Australian EHS legislation and workers' compensation frameworks.
* EHS experience in industrial or manufacturing environments; mining experience desirable.
* Proven ability to deliver training and engage effectively at all organisational levels.
* Experience conducting audits and inspections.
* Strong leadership, project management, and organisational skills.
* High level of professionalism, communication capability, and technical proficiency in MS Office and business systems
