Protect Community Safety Where the Outback Meets the Coast

At the Shire of Carnarvon, we're committed to keeping our community safe — from our neighbourhoods and townsites to our coastal reserves, visitor hotspots, and remote areas across 6701.

As part of our Community Planning & Sustainability team, you'll contribute to a safe, connected, and resilient Carnarvon. This is an opportunity to make a real difference through frontline community engagement, responsible enforcement, and hands-on safety work that supports both residents and visitors.

This is more than compliance — it's presence, service, and community connection.

What You'll Do

As our Community Safety Officer, you will:

* Deliver frontline community safety services through patrols, engagement, and enforcement of local laws.
* Respond to community enquiries and complaints with professionalism and care.
* Undertake investigations into issues such as dog attacks, firebreak compliance, littering, nuisance behaviour, and off-road vehicle activity.
* Carry out animal management duties including impounding, transporting, and handling animals.
* Provide a visible presence at high-use visitor locations such as the Blowholes, Coral Bay, and coastal reserves.
* Support emergency preparedness and response activities including hazard inspections, seasonal readiness tasks, and operational support during incidents.
* Assist with community education on local laws, responsible pet ownership, fire safety, and visitor behaviour expectations.
* Maintain accurate notes, evidence, and compliance records.

You'll be part of a team that plays a crucial role in ensuring Carnarvon remains safe, welcoming, and well-supported.

About You

You'll bring:

* Experience in community safety, local laws, animal management, compliance, or a related regulatory field.
* Knowledge of (or ability to quickly learn) legislation including the Dog Act 1976, Cat Act 2011, Bush Fires Act 1954, Litter Act 1979 and Local Government Act 1995.
* Confidence handling animals and managing a variety of field-based tasks.
* Strong communication skills and the ability to engage calmly and respectfully with diverse community members.
* Sound judgement, problem-solving skills and the ability to manage challenging situations.
* Physical capability to perform patrols, inspections, and outdoor operational duties.
* A commitment to safety, teamwork, and high-quality service.
* Alignment with our CARECHIP values — Courage, Authenticity, Respect, Excellence, Cohesion, Humility, Inclusion, Passion.

Experience working in regional or remote communities is highly regarded.
