About the Role
Are you passionate about health and safety? Looking for an exciting opportunity to apply your expertise in a dynamic and supportive environment? The Senior Health and Safety Advisor will play a pivotal role in leading the review, redevelopment, and implementation of the University's Work Health and Safety Management System (WHSMS). This project-focused position will design and deliver a robust, fit-for-purpose WHSMS that aligns with legislative requirements, recognised best practice standards, and the University's operational priorities. The role involves proactively identifying and managing risks to ensure the project's success, while fostering strong collaboration with stakeholders across the University. The successful candidate will champion practical, user-friendly solutions that strengthen safety culture, drive compliance, and embed sustainable health and safety practices across the institution.
Who we are looking for
 * Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing, and reviewing WHS management systems, ideally in a complex or higher education environment.
 * Strong technical writing skills with proven ability to draft clear, concise, and compliant documentation (e.g., policies, procedures, forms).
 * In-depth knowledge of WHS legislation, standards (e.g. ISO 45001), and Codes of Practice.
 * Demonstrated high-level interpersonal and oral communication skills with the ability to consult and liaise effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders and with cross-cultural sensitivity.
 * High-level written communication skills with the ability to construct clear and concise project reports.
 * Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple and often competing tasks with accuracy and detail within deadlines.
 * High-level project management skills with the ability to manage and implement project plans to achieve desired outcomes.
 * Ability to work effectively as part of a cohesive professional team and the capacity to guide other Health and Safety Advisors within the team.
 * Demonstrated critical analysis skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment in decision-making.
Your responsibilities
 * Manage all activities related to assigned project(s), from start up, planning, implementation and close-out, using appropriate project management methodology and systems, to achieve defined project outcomes.
 * Write and prepare policies and procedures and related documentation.
 * Build relationships with and liaise with relevant partners and stakeholders to identify project deliverables and negotiate clear objectives and appropriate project outcomes.
 * Identify impacts and risks associated with the project and report on and manage these.
 * Chair and facilitate stakeholder meetings and convene focus groups.
 * Oversee the implementation of the project deliverables.
 * Monitor and evaluate project milestones and undertake post-implementation reviews.
 * Undertake other activities consistent with the accountabilities and responsibilities listed above.
Role requirements
 * As this is a fixed-term contract, you will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role.
 * Successful applicants are subject to a National Police Clearance, and background, integrity, and reference checks to Curtin's satisfaction.
