Human resources advisor

Sunshine Coast
Shadforth
Human Resources Advisor
Posted: 26 February
Offer description

Shadforth is one of Queensland's leading civil construction contractors, delivering major subdivision and infrastructure projects across Southeast Queensland and Northern NSW. With over 1,100 employees across 70+ active project sites, our HR function plays a critical role in managing people risk, compliance and leadership capability in a high-risk, operational environment.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced HR Advisor to support the HR Manager in a hands-on, operational capacity. This role is ideal for a capable HR professional who enjoys being a "doer", providing practical, compliant advice while also owning the administration, documentation and follow-through required to execute HR effectively.

Reporting to the HR Manager, the HR Advisor provides end-to-end HR support across the business, with a strong focus on employee relations, injury management, compliance and systems.

While supported by an HR Administration function, this role still requires a significant volume of hands-on administration, data entry and documentation, particularly in performance management, grievances and injury management matters.

At Shadforth, recruitment is centralised within a dedicated Talent Acquisition team. This allows the HR Advisor to step away from active sourcing and focus on being a key stakeholder for legislation, contract management, and compliance advisory. This structure ensures your expertise is focused on operational HR delivery, risk mitigation, and empowering project teams to manage people matters correctly.

The HR Advisor will also play a key role in the implementation of a new ERP system mid-year, supporting HR process updates, system training and change adoption across the business.

Key Responsibilities

Employee Relations & Advisory: Provide sound, practical HR advice and support to Project Managers and Site Leaders; manage end-to-end performance processes, investigations, and grievances with a focus on procedural fairness and risk mitigation.
Industrial Relations & Compliance: Apply IR and other applicable legislation pragmatically within a blue-collar environment; ensure alignment with Fair Work, Awards, and Enterprise Agreements.
Injury Management & Return to Work: Coordinate workers' compensation claims and RTW programs, acting as the primary liaison between insurers, medical providers, and site teams and injured workers. Work with our Safety teams to Support early intervention initiatives and injury trend analysis
Systems & ERP Transformation: Play a lead role in the mid-year implementation of our new ERP system; reviewing HR workflows, facilitating internal HR systems training, and driving change adoption across the business.
Reporting & Insights: Prepare and analyse HR reports relating to performance, grievances, and injuries; identifying trends to drive continuous improvement and proactive people-risk management.
Operational Visibility: You will travel to active project sites monthly, building relationships and supporting site-based teams across QLD and Northern NSW.
Operational Excellence: Maintain high-volume documentation and accurate records, ensuring that "hands-on" administration meets the highest standards of confidentiality and detail.

About You

To Be Successful, You Will Bring a Proactive, "roll-up-your-sleeves" Attitude Combined With The Professional Maturity To Advise Senior Stakeholders. You Will Have

Proven experience as an HR Advisor in a complex, blue-collar, or operational environment (Civil Construction experience is highly regarded).
Strong technical capability in Performance Management, ER, and Injury Management.
Strong attention to detail and confidence managing high-volume HR administration
The ability to work autonomously, managing high-volume administration with precision and speed.
A "systems mindset", you enjoy using technology to improve HR outcomes and are excited by the prospect of a major ERP rollout.
Confidence in coaching site leaders and the ability to navigate difficult conversations with empathy and firmness.
