Primary objective
The role is responsible for the effective delivery and management of building services repairs and maintenance contracts at Gove
District Hospital (GDH) or Alice Springs Hospital (ASH). This position also plans, develops and implements policies and procedures
to ensure that Engineering Services requirements are met for all facets of general building systems across the facility.

Context statement
The Department of Logistics and Infrastructure – Hospital Engineering Services provide 24/7 multi-disciplinary support to Gove
District and Alice Springs Hospital. The team ensures Repairs and Maintenance is completed in accordance with the Department
requirements and relevant legislative, legal, and Australian Standards, ensuring compliance with the National Safety and Quality
Health Service (NSQHS) Standards and the hospital accreditation cycle.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Manage all phases of allocated trade-based contract management, provide high level assistance and advice on contract-related

matters.
2. Recommend, implement, and administer building period contracts, ensuring compliance to multiple disciplines across NT

Building Act, Construction Code, Australian Standards legislative and legal requirements.
3. Effectively liaise with and supervise Contractors in the satisfactory completion of works.
4. Follow defined service quality standards, Workplace Health and Safety policies and procedures relating to the work being

undertaken to ensure high quality, safe services, and workplaces.
5. Participate in the Engineering Services on-call roster for the provision of after-hours support to Gove Hospital Engineering

Services, contingent upon being suitably qualified or experienced.
6. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. A relevant qualification awarded by an Australian institution, or equivalent; or relevant experience in a field of technical work

closely related to the duties of the vacancy.
2. Demonstrated interpersonal and contract management skills including supervision of facilities maintenance contractors.
3. Experience in maintaining and operating large systems of equipment in a complex and diverse nature, with the capacity to

interpret operational problems.
4. Sound knowledge of Building Code of Australia, Legislation and Australian Standards.
5. Ability to communicate and work effectively with a wide range of professional, technical, trades and administrative people,

always maintaining professional interaction.
6. Ability to manage pressure and change, analyse risk, apply discretion, initiative, confidentiality and adaptability, and meet

deadlines.
7. Well-developed information technology skills including word processing and spreadsheet software as well as project

management and design tools.

Desirable
1. Knowledge of a hospital environment in relation to an Engineering Services department.
2. Experience with Computer Managed Maintenance Systems.
