Senior Legal Advocate, Community Justice
Role Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced legal advocate to join our team in Moree, NSW. As a Senior Legal Advocate, you will play a critical role in delivering culturally grounded legal services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
* Deliver legal advocacy that strengthens outcomes for our clients, ensuring they receive high-quality, culturally appropriate representation.
* Support the development of early intervention programs, community education initiatives, and referrals to ensure meaningful change in our communities.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Senior Legal Advocate, you will be responsible for overseeing daily office operations, including supervision, rostering, diary management, and allocation of criminal matters. You will also supervise and mentor junior solicitors, supporting their advocacy development, training, and continuing professional development (CPD).
* Manage and appear in complex Local Court/Children's Court matters, support District Court proceedings, and ensure high-quality, culturally appropriate client representation.
* Liaise with courts and justice agencies, maintain case management processes, and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
* Handle ethical issues, complaints, referrals, and briefing processes in line with ALS policies and professional obligations.
Requirements:
* Strong understanding of Aboriginal cultural and social needs, with respectful and culturally safe practice.
* Legal qualifications, NSW Practising Certificate, and at least 2 years' experience in criminal law.
* Solid knowledge of criminal law, proven advocacy skills, and ability to work independently while managing a diverse workload.
* Excellent communication, time management, and leadership skills.
* Willingness to travel as needed and commitment to workplace health and safety, ethical practice, and diversity.
