Your New Role
The Commercial Business Department shapes the future of the Shire through management and operation of key commercial assets and Shire-wide services such as economic development and tourism. The primary purpose of this role is to lead the Department to deliver efficient, effective and coherent commercial business services for customers and the community in a financially sustainable manner, contributing to the Shire’s success and prosperity.
The Department comprises the following functions:
- Commercial Assets – oversight and management of Macleay Valley Coast Holiday Parks, Kempsey Airport, Kempsey Regional Saleyards
- Economic Development & Tourism – management of the Slim Dusty Centre and Visitor Information Services
- Property Services – strategic and statutory property management
- Facilities & Operations – management of Council’s owned facilities and cemeteries
This role is part of the Senior Leadership Team and the incumbent is expected to contribute openly and constructively as a member of Council’s leadership team. For a full list of the key accountabilities, please refer to the Position Description.
About You
You are a proactive and commercially minded leader with a strong background in managing complex operations, ideally within a government or public sector context. You have a proven ability to balance commercial success with community benefit and stakeholder engagement.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Tertiary qualification in Business or a related field
- Significant experience in a senior leadership role overseeing commercial operations, property, and/or business services
- Strong strategic and financial acumen with a track record of delivering sustainable business outcomes
- Knowledge of governance, compliance, and risk management frameworks within a government setting
- Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills
