APS5 Data Officer - Federal Government | 12-Month Contract | Newcastle, NSW


Location: Newcastle, NSW

Level: APS5 Equivalent

Contract: 12 months, ASAP start

Hourly Rate: $ Super

Citizenship: Australian Citizenship is mandatory


About the Role


We are seeking a skilled and motivated APS5 Data Officer to join a Federal Government team based in Newcastle, NSW on a 12-month contract. In this role, you will support regional service operations by delivering high-quality data analysis, reporting, and insights that drive informed decision-making and service improvements.

Working under limited direction, the successful candidate will undertake moderately complex to complex tasks relating to data quality, reporting development, stakeholder engagement, and continuous improvement of data processes.

Key Responsibilities


As the APS5 Data Officer, you will:

* Extract, clean, transform, and analyse operational data to support regional performance and service delivery.
* Build, maintain and enhance dashboards and reports using tools such as Excel, Salesforce, and SAS.
* Conduct systematic data analysis to identify operational trends, risks, and performance opportunities.
* Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver tailored reporting solutions.
* Support the development and implementation of data quality assurance procedures and processes.
* Assist in the coordination and delivery of data-related projects, including documentation and stakeholder updates.
* Translate complex datasets into meaningful and actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders.
* Provide technical advice and support to colleagues and stakeholders on data and reporting matters.
* Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, aiming to enhance the team's analytical capability and reporting effectiveness.


Essential Skills and Experience


To be successful in this role, you will have:

* Proven experience in data analysis, reporting, and visualisation.
* A strong understanding of the role of data in supporting regional service operations, with the ability to apply innovative approaches to improve data reporting and decision-making.
* Awareness of strategic and operational priorities that impact data collection and use in a service delivery context.
* Ability to identify, investigate, and resolve data integrity issues, contributing to risk mitigation strategies.
* Experience in translating complex data into simple, clear insights for non-technical audiences.


Desirable Skills and Qualifications

* Tertiary qualifications in Data Analytics, Statistics, Information Systems, or a related field.
* Experience working with government data systems and reporting frameworks.
* Knowledge of APS policies, procedures, and service delivery standards.


Eligibility Criteria


This position is open to Australian Citizens only. As it is a Federal Government opportunity, candidates must meet eligibility requirements for onboarding, including character checks or security clearances if required.


About the Team


You will be joining the NSW/ACT Service Delivery Workload, Workflow, and Productivity Team, a key operational unit responsible for managing workloads and improving how services are delivered to participants.

The team plays a vital role in ensuring the right work reaches the right people at the right time. They monitor work queues, provide performance analysis, and drive data-informed decision-making for ongoing improvements in service delivery.

This team also supports frontline staff and regional leaders in understanding and optimising workflows, including enhancements and testing of the PACE system-a new platform revolutionising how participant and provider interactions are managed.


About the PACE System


PACE is a major digital initiative supporting the transition of participant plans within the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). It improves user experience, streamlines provider payments, and enhances visibility into decision-making.

Key highlights of PACE:

* Improved user experience for participants and providers
* Streamlined plan management and payment processing
* National rollout began in October 2023, with full transition by May 2025
* Supports better routing of work and decision tracking
* Providers are supported with tools and updates to align with PACE workflows

As a Data Officer, you will contribute to monitoring and optimising workflows through PACE and related systems.
