Primary objective
To assist the Alice Springs Local Court in improving, monitoring and evaluating the specialist approach to domestic violence.
Context statement
The Alice Springs Local Court has developed a specialist approach to domestic violence to improve the safety and experience
of victims and to promote perpetrator accountability and behaviour change. This role is integral to ensuring quality risk
assessments, promoting positive stakeholder relationships as well as monitoring and evaluating the specialist approach.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Assist the Judges and Judicial Registrar to co-ordinate the on-going implementation and continuous improvement of the
Specialist Approach to Domestic Violence at the Alice Springs Local Court, including stakeholder liaison, collecting data,
monitoring, reporting and data entry.
2. Secretariat duties for internal meetings and meetings with external stakeholders.
3. Oversee and co-ordinate the provision of risk assessment and support services provided by non-government agencies to
ensure they are well co-ordinated, timely and are of high quality.
4. Liaise with stakeholders to answer queries and questions in relation to domestic and family violence matters.
5. Organise appropriate training on domestic and family violence and other issues, in consultation with Judges, court staff
and court stakeholders.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated understanding of the dynamics of domestic and family violence and trauma informed practice.
2. Demonstrated capacity to operate in a respectful and culturally safe manner with Aboriginal or culturally and linguistically
diverse victims of domestic violence.
3. High level negotiation and interpersonal skills, including a capacity to maintain supportive relationships with internal and
external stakeholders and convene effective meetings.
4. A working knowledge the Domestic and Family Violence Act, and the Family Safety Framework or of comparable
legislation, systems and frameworks in other jurisdictions.
5. Strong organisational, administrative and prioritising skills to co-ordinate tasks effectively while working autonomously.
6. Capacity to co-ordinate and collate information to inform regular reviews of the operation of the specialist approach to
domestic violence.
Desirable
1. Experience with qualitative and quantitative data collection and evaluation.
2. Experience working with Aboriginal clients and communities.
3. Experience as a legal practitioner.
4. Qualifications in law, social work, psychology, social sciences or another related field.
