Bendigo Rail Workshops (BRW) is a rail maintenance facility located in Bendigo, Victoria. BRW is a critical member of the Southern Shorthaul Railroad group of companies and as such performs maintenance work for some of the largest rail companies in Australia.

About the role

Due to continues growth, BRW has a newly created full time role available for the position of Rail Maintenance Trainer.

The primary purpose of the role is to develop, prepare, deliver, assess, and evaluate production personnel, in order for them to be suitably experienced and trained in performing the duties of their roles safely and to the required standard.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

- Train and mentor current and new employees, assisting them to develop rail maintenance skills in both the classroom and production environment

- Assist the training department in reviewing and applying continuous improvement strategies, including but not limited to, improving assessor guides, learner guides and reference materials

- Assist in developing and delivering the training requirements for the company

- Review internal and external training Registers and employees’ competencies to ensure they are accurate and up to date

- Assist in developing and create training packages, including training documentation for the production needs of the company

- Lead, train and mentor production employees on company core values

- Complete, maintain and document training records accurately

- Review, provide feedback to supervisors on training progress

- Evaluate the training program, retaining written feedback for review and discussion with the appropriate manager.

- Schedule appropriate training sessions

- Oversee and direct seminars, workshops and individual training sessions

- Report to and inform the appropriate manager regarding student welfare, student attendance and course progress

- Participate in internal and external audits as required and undertake follow up actions as required with the appropriate manager

- Support students to complete their courses as per their training plans and course schedules

- Maintain currency of qualifications and relevant industry experience

- Attend training meetings as required

- Travel to various maintenance depots within VIC and NSW from time to time, as required

Skills and Experience Required

Prior Rail Industry experience highly regarded, but not essential

Hold a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment

Prior experience in a similar role

Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the company

Quality focused, with a high attention to detail

Highly skilled in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

Hold a current unrestricted Victorian Drivers Licence

Hold a current National Police Check or willingness to obtain one

Ability to pass Rail Industry medical if/as required

Ability to travel to various maintenance depots within VIC and NSW from time to time, as required
