Mental Health Counsellor - Pilbara Region WA
An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Mental Health Counsellor to join a community‐led health service delivering culturally responsive and trauma‐informed care across the East Pilbara region. This role sits within the Social and Emotional Wellbeing – Beyond Mental Health program and plays a pivotal part in supporting the holistic wellbeing of individuals, families, and communities.

Your Role
Reporting to the Community Health Programs Manager and accountable to the Director of Community Health, you will:
* Deliver culturally safe mental health counselling, assessment, and care planning
* Provide crisis intervention and trauma‐informed therapeutic responses
* Work collaboratively with community members, Aboriginal health workers, and multidisciplinary clinical teams
* Support and mentor local health workers to strengthen community‐based mental health capacity
* Contribute to program development, evaluation, and continuous quality improvement
* Maintain high standards of clinical governance, reporting, and compliance
Key Responsibilities
* Provide counselling and therapeutic interventions to individuals, families, and groups
* Develop, implement, and review client‐centred care plans
* Respond to emotional distress and trauma using culturally appropriate healing approaches
* Engage respectfully with Martu communities to identify social and emotional wellbeing needs
* Facilitate mental health education, awareness workshops, and healing programs
* Support local workforce development through mentoring and capacity building
* Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences and care planning
* Liaise with external services and stakeholders to support referrals and advocacy
* Assist with program design, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting
* Maintain accurate, confidential client records and program data
To be successful in this role you will have
* Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, Mental Health, or related field
* Current registration or eligibility with a relevant professional body (AASW, AHPRA, ACA, etc.)
* Demonstrated experience providing mental health services, ideally in Indigenous and/or remote settings
* Strong understanding of social determinants of mental health in Aboriginal communities
* Commitment to holistic, strengths‐based, and trauma‐informed practice
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
* Ability to work independently and travel regularly in remote regions
* Sound organisational, documentation, and time‐management skills
* Competency with client information systems and Microsoft Office
* Current C Class Manual Driver's Licence, National Police Clearance, and Working with Children Check
* Willingness and ability to operate 4WD vehicles
