The World and National Heritage Branch plays a key role in identifying, protecting, and promoting Australia's significant natural, First Nations and historic heritage places that are included on the World, National and Commonwealth Heritage lists. We develop and implement strategic directions for heritage, lead on international engagement in relation to Australia's 20 World Heritage Sites, support the Australian Heritage Council, manage Australian Government heritage grants programs, and lead the Australian underwater cultural heritage program. We work with First Nations people and a wide range of stakeholders - including state and territory governments, place managers and UNESCO to ensure Australia's heritage is protected for future generations.

**The Job**
The World and National Heritage Branch has several vacancies at the Executive Level 1 level. The focus of these roles include:

- Leading teams responsible for the assessment of places for listing, provision of advice on impacts to heritage values for referrals, responding to public enquiries, and analysing heritage management plans and strategies for compliance with statutory requirements for places on the World, Commonwealth and National lists with significant historic, natural and/or First Nations heritage values.
- Leading a team which has oversight of the Australian Heritage Database, including liaison with users and technicians and progressing the development of a new, modern system, and management of statutory functions under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999, including delivery of a five-year review and report of the National and Commonwealth Heritage Lists.
- Jointly leading a team to support the Australian World Heritage delegation's attendance at annual World Heritage Committee meetings, including preparation and coordination of briefing and logistics
- Leading the delivery of projects relating to capacity building, including an Official Development Assistance program.
- Jointly leading a team focused on policy development relevant to climate change and international relations within the World Heritage system.
- Skills and Capabilities_
- Demonstrated ability to deliver high quality written and oral advice on complex areas of policy or program delivery.
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and strategic directions while achieving team outcomes in line with the department's objectives.
- Demonstrated ability to work and build capability in a team environment - including through coaching others, being innovative, conflict resolution and encouraging career development. Demonstrated ability to engage and collaborate with stakeholders including other areas of the department, Commonwealth agencies, state and territory agencies, industry representatives and community groups to identify opportunities, achieve outcomes and facilitate cooperation. Demonstrated ability to analyse and bring together relevant information, develop strategy relevant to the work area, and working with others to identify opportunities for implementation.
- Well-developed coordination and organisational skills, with a proven track record of risk management, achieving results, managing uncertainty and working to deadlines.
- Sound judgement.
- Knowledge and experience_
Qualifications, experience and/or skills applicable to the conservation, protection and sustainable management of Australia's heritage or biodiversity are desirable, with a strong focus on writing for government. Experience working in one or more of the following would be an advantage:
