Primary objective
The Senior Radiochemist works within the Cyclotron facility and medical imaging at the Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH)
ensuring the highest standard of quality for radiopharmaceuticals produced within the facility, both routinely and for
research and development.
This role operates under the supervision of the Cyclotron Operations Manager and the Quality Control (QC) and Safety
Manager, with the scientific and clinical guidance of the Clinical Director of Nuclear Medicine at RDH.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Participate in the production, quality control and quality assurance of radiopharmaceuticals at the Cyclotron facility for
routine and outside-of-routine production requirements.
2. Assist in the ongoing Quality Assurance compliance of radiopharmaceutical production to Good Manufacturing Practices
(GMP) standard.
3. Actively collaborate with other team members in production of radiopharmaceuticals outside of routine production.
4. Where required, act as a delegate to the Cyclotron Operations Manager or Quality Control and Safety Manager.
5. Pursue grant and research opportunities for the Cyclotron facility.
6. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies, and procedures relating to the work being
undertaken in order to ensure high quality, protected services and workplaces.
7. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Tertiary qualification in chemistry, pharmacy or other relevant discipline.
2. Experience as a radiochemist, working in a GMP environment manufacturing/testing radiopharmaceuticals.
3. Proven experience in optimisation of radiolabelling protocols, radiolabelling yield, radiochemical purity and chemical
purity to GMP standard.
4. Experience in the validation and management of GMP procedures for routine and non-routine production of
radiopharmaceuticals.
5. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in collaboration within a team.
6. Experience in the training and leadership of junior team members in the manufacturing/testing of radiopharmaceuticals.
7. High-level written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable
1. Experience in the production of radiometal or theranostic radiopharmaceuticals (e.g. 68Ga, 177Lu, 225Ac).
2. Experience in grant applications for radiopharmacy research opportunities.
