We're seeking a motivated Technical Officer to join our team and help drive excellence in animal research.
The Research Platforms Division is a newly centralised and elevated to a university-level strategic division, marking UOW's commitment to transforming and optimising the entire lifecycle of its major research infrastructure and assets. This newly centralised division is tasked with significantly improving the accessibility, efficiency, manageability, and financial sustainability of these critical resources, with a future view to incorporating additional research platforms under its unified oversight. It achieves this by providing strategic leadership, university-wide coordination, and expert oversight of key operational teams and facilities (like the Electron Microscopy Centre, ANFF Materials Node, Material Analysis Facilities and Human and Animal Facility ). Ultimately, this re-envisioned division ensures that UOW's world-class research infrastructure directly underpins and accelerates the University's research strategy and priorities for both internal researchers and external partners.
About the role
In this role, you'll provide inductions and training for researchers, deliver high-quality animal husbandry and handling and assist with planning and reporting to keep operations running smoothly. You'll also work alongside researchers on advanced animal techniques, ensuring compliance and best practice standards.
This position offers variety, with opportunities to contribute to the Ecological Research Facility and Clinical Trials Research Unit, expanding your skills and experience in a dynamic research environment.

Special job requirements
• May be required to work outside of standard business hours or across research partner facilities
• This position is not suitable for remote work in accordance with the UOW Remote Working Guidelines.
• Must be prepared and able to work with a variety of animals
• Preparedness to carry out menial and repetitive tasks
• Ability to lift/handle items weighing 5-10kg
