Offer description

So many lives. So many ways. One you.

50,000 lives and counting.

That's how many South Australians our people support each year.

As one of the state's leading not-for-profits, we're making a meaningful impact at scale. From foster care to aged care and everything in between, our services are as diverse as the people and communities we serve - and we're growing our reach for the future.

It takes a special kind of person to work in this sector. Someone with real compassion and care. Could that person be you?

Join us as a StandBy Support Worker, and be part of something bigger.

What you'll do

As a StandBy Support Worker, you will provide direct, in-home support to people who have been bereaved or impacted by suicide at any stage of their life. Using your knowledge of grief, loss, and trauma, you will deliver early intervention and tailored support to individuals and families following a suicide.

In Australia, more than 2,800 people die by suicide each year. StandBy – Support After Suicide was established in 2002 to meet the need for a coordinated, community-based response to suicide. This is a 24/7 service that supports individuals, families, and communities impacted by suicide.

We currently have casual vacancies available in Whyalla, Port Lincoln, Mt Gambier, and the Riverland. These positions are casual, with a minimum commitment of 3 hours per week

You'll be trusted to make a valuable impact by:

● Responding to people and communities affected by suicide, with person-centred support aligned with the StanbyBy Model.

● Attending home visits to deliver practical, compassionate, and sensitive support following a suicide.

● Working alongside clients to monitor progress through the completion and review of outcome measures.

● Assisting with the facilitation of community training to raise awareness of suicide and bereavement.

What you'll bring

To thrive in this role, you will have:

● Knowledge of grief, loss and trauma and well developed skills in applying them.

● Ability to think creatively, problem solve and develop strategies and plans that utilise strengths and resources.

● Tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent level of expertise and experience in social science, health or associated disciplines relevant to the requirements of the position.

● A current 'C' class driver license.

We would also love you to have:

● Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is desirable (however preferred applicant will be supported to obtain upon recruitment).
