Job Description 12 12 12-month contract with a premier Commonwealth agency Negative Vetting 2 Security Clearance Required Lead the transitioning from legacy Geostationary Orbit systems to modern Non-Geostationary Orbit technologies We are seeking an experienced Satellite Communications Engineer to support a major multi-year satellite modernisation initiative. This program is designed to upgrade and future-proof critical satellite communications infrastructure, improving performance, resilience and reliability across geographically dispersed sites. You will contribute to the design, deployment, and optimisation of both legacy Geostationary Orbit (GEO) and emerging Non-Geostationary Orbit (NGSO) technologies, ensuring secure, high-availability communications that underpin essential government operations. Key Responsibilities: Design, implement and maintain satellite communication systems (GEO and NGSO) Integrate high-performance, low-maintenance satellite terminals Deploy NGSO capabilities to pilot and production sites Provide maintenance and support for high-risk GEO locations Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure reliable, secure and scalable connectivity Produce technical documentation for both technical and executive stakeholders Key Experience and Skills: Minimum 5 years’ experience in satellite communications engineering, including GEO and NGSO technologies Strong knowledge of RF and microwave communication systems (design, testing, optimisation) Experience in planning and delivering high-availability WAN services, including satellite-based solutions Proven ability to develop high-quality technical documentation (designs, maintenance plans, reports) Strong collaboration and communication skills with geographically dispersed teams Ability and willingness to travel to remote sites for deployment, maintenance and support Security Requirements: Applicants must hold an active Negative Vetting 2 Security Clearance (or higher) to be considered.
