Primary objective

This position supports the work of the Clinical Rehabilitation team to create safer communities and reduce re-offending through the co-facilitation of group-based offence specific and offence related programs; provides cultural knowledge and brokerage for Aboriginal offenders in custody; and cultural advice and input into the assessment of prisoners, delivery of treatment programs, and development of management and release plans.

Context statement

Every Contact Matters - Under the newly developed Rehabilitation and Reintegration (RandR) Framework the Clinical Rehabilitation team requires Aboriginal Program Facilitators to support our existing team of psychologists, social workers, and Aboriginal Program Facilitators to deliver offence related intensive treatment programs. There are opportunities to support the development of new intensive programs within both the men's and women's spaces within the prison system. This is an opportunity to develop your facilitation skills within a correctional setting and to support Aboriginal prisoners.

Key duties and responsibilities
* Co-facilitate (with a clinician) group-based offence specific and offence related programs for prisoners as required.
* Contribute and provide cultural brokerage and advice in the clinical assessment and treatment of Aboriginal offenders and prepare them for suitable treatment programs.
* Recognise and collaboratively address criminogenic risks and needs identified within offender assessments and management in consultation with clinicians.
* Provide cultural advice and support for professional and administrative stream staff within Clinical Rehabilitation prison-based teams.
* Sustain program data, maintain records, and document information within the designated record systems.
* Comply with offender program management procedures, standards, and guidelines.
* Contribute to the case management and sentence management activities for Aboriginal offenders as required.
* Be an active member of a multi-disciplinary team, participate in supervision, peer supervision and ongoing professional development and training.
* Carry out duties as requested by the Manager Clinical Rehabilitation.
Selection criteria

Essential

* Demonstrated experience in providing cultural advice or brokerage in the delivery of programs for Aboriginal people.
* Strong written communication skills, showcasing the capacity to generate high-quality reports and case notes.
* Strong verbal communication skills, enabling effective engagement with a diverse client group and the ability to communicate with stakeholders in a manner suitable to the audience.
* Information technology skills with a readiness to acquire new IT competencies, including the utilisation of internal information databases and Microsoft Office software.
* Proven capacity to operate efficiently, both autonomously and as part of a multi-disciplinary team, within a complex therapeutic environment.
* Current and comprehensive understanding of issues, trends and practices related to Aboriginal people, coupled with the ability to analyse their impact on the community, and experience in providing cultural advice and/or brokerage.
* Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, willingness to participate in supervision and ongoing development, and the capability and/or personal qualities suitable to work in a custodial environment.

Desirable

* Demonstrated sound understanding of, or experience working within, the criminal justice system.
* Relevant qualifications (e.g. Degree in Psychology/Criminology, Social Work, Community Services, Community).
