Senior Power Protection Specialist
This position is an opportunity to apply advanced engineering expertise in a collaborative environment, ensuring the reliability and safety of power infrastructure. The role involves leading the design, analysis, and implementation of protection systems for substations operating at various voltage levels.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the design, analysis, and implementation of protection systems for substations operating at 11kV, 33kV, 66kV, 132kV, and up to 220kV.
* Perform detailed fault analysis, including short-circuit, earth fault, and transient fault studies, to determine fault levels and ensure system stability.
* Develop and configure protection settings for relays, including overcurrent, earth fault, distance, and differential protection schemes.
* Review and validate protection designs for suitability, ensuring compliance with relevant Australian standards.
* Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate protection systems with SCADA, automation, and control systems in substations.
* Conduct protection coordination studies to ensure selective tripping and minimize outages in distribution networks.
* Perform root cause analysis for protection system failures and implement corrective measures to enhance network reliability.
* Provide technical guidance on protection schemes for brownfield upgrades and retrofitting of existing substations.
* Prepare detailed technical reports, specifications, and documentation for protection systems and network performance.
Requirements:
* Determine required protection settings.
* Review protection designs for suitability.
* Minimum of 8 years of experience in protection engineering within the power distribution or transmission sector.
* Proven track record of delivering protection systems for brownfield substation projects.
* Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Education and Certifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
* Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng), Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland considered an advantage (RPEQ).

* Location: Melbourne, Victoria.
