What's the role about?
The role will focus on providing pricing and underwriting support to drive the profitable growth of the company's auto business in Australia and New Zealand, while also offering support to other APAC territories at request.
This role recommends and implements techniques which support Assurant operations in achieving its goals related to revenue and profitability targets. The Actuarial Analyst demonstrates the ability to understand project directions, manage time effectively, and develop professionally.
This role also participates in the department’s exam and rotational programs, providing opportunities to gain experience across various areas of the Actuarial organization and understanding all products in Assurant’s portfolio.
The Actuarial Analyst is responsible for:
* Performing rate reviews, rate modeling (e.g., vehicle model rating), and portfolio monitoring for assigned territories/lines of business.
* Collaborating with local businesses to profitably acquire and grow the motor insurance business by visiting, presenting, and making pricing recommendations to local underwriting agencies and reinsurers.
* Liaising daily with external stakeholders such as underwriting agencies, brokers, reinsurers, actuarial consultancies, external vendors, and internal teams including Business Development, Risk, Claims, Finance, and Operations.
* Responding to all internal, external, or ad hoc requests for the supported business units/products with guidance from the manager.
* Analyzing, updating, and summarizing existing memorandum templates.
* Locating and reconciling data from various sources, ensuring accuracy and addressing data anomalies.
* Gathering information from internal departments to complete reports and analyses, understanding and developing process flows, and incorporating feedback.
* Assisting with data collection and responding to inquiries from insurance departments, auditors, and internal teams regarding business processes, gaps, strategies, and improvements.
* Identifying system and data inefficiencies and providing recommendations for resolution.
* Implementing solutions to translate financial projections into business metrics, with awareness of productivity, processes, and profitability.
* Participating in cross-training and knowledge sharing within the team to achieve goals.
* Managing self-development and pursuing actuarial exams towards professional designation.
Does this sound like you?
* Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or related field.
* 3-8 years of experience, preferably with local motor insurance pricing experience.
* Actively pursuing or holding an actuarial designation, such as Associate of the Australian Actuarial Institute or equivalent (CAS/SOA/CIA/IFoA).
* 3-6 years of progressive responsibilities in an actuarial role.
* Advanced understanding of actuarial concepts, insurance products, and industry knowledge.
* Proficiency in MS Office applications and data platforms such as SAS, SQL, R, Python, etc.
