About This Opportunity
We are inviting applications for two Casual Research Assistants to support a drug driving enforcement study in our School of Psychology.
In these roles, you will provide key research support for a multi-site, longitudinal study evaluating a new two-tier system for drug-driving enforcement in Australia. This project aims to enhance road safety by assessing drug-induced impairment through cognitive and hazard perception testing, rather than relying solely on zero-tolerance drug detection.
These positions will be offered as a Casual Research Assistant (HEW Level 5) and a Casual Senior Research Assistant (HEW Level 6) commensurate with the successful candidates' skills and experience. The HEW 5 position will focus on Sub-study 2 - the recruiting and testing phase, and the HEW 6 position will focus on Sub-study 3 - the analysis and evaluation phase.
These are casual roles in which the work hours will vary from week to week depending on participant availability and project demands. We anticipate there may be approximately 2-3 days of work per week (2 days for the HEW 6 role and 3 days for the HEW 5 role) through to December 2026. Applicants will need to be able to work flexible hours in response to project demands.
About You
For the Casual Research Assistant (HEW Level 5) role, we are looking for someone with:
* A degree in psychology, behavioural science, public health or related field; or equivalent combination of experience and education.
* Strong organisational and communication skills, with attention to detail.
* Ability to work independently and manage flexible scheduling demands.
* Experience with participant-facing tasks in a research or clinical setting.
* Competence in handling sensitive data and maintaining confidentiality.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office and willingness to learn project-specific software.
* Be prepared to undertake training and obtain a First Aid certificate.
* Experience with REDCap or similar data collection platforms and previous involvement in ethics-approved human research would be considered advantageous.
For the Casual Senior Research Assistant (HEW Level 6) role, we are looking for someone with:
* An honours or postgraduate qualification in psychology, public health, criminology, transport research, or related discipline.
* Demonstrated experience in research support, literature review, and academic writing.
* Experience using SciSpace or equivalent literature discovery platforms.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and research-related tools (e.g., SPSS, Excel).
* Strong organisational and communication skills with attention to detail.
* Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines.
* Experience working with ethics-approved human research.
* Familiarity with cost-benefit analysis or impact forecasting methods along with previous experience working with transport, health, or law enforcement datasets would be advantageous.
Please note, applicants must maintain unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of these appointments to apply (employer-sponsored work rights are not available for these appointments).
