A fantastic opportunity exists for the right candidate to manage the hospitality business unit of a new landmark, community-based sports and hospitality venue located in East Fremantle.
The Role
Reporting to the Head Chef as Sous Chef of the East Fremantle Community Park, which includes a Bar & Cafe, Function Centre, Fitness Centre, Football Oval, Bowling Greens, and Croquet Greens, you will be responsible for the venue’s hospitality operations, financials, and programming. You will develop and implement plans through engagement with the venue's leadership team and key stakeholders.
With experience in hospitality, food & beverage, and events management, you will be responsible for driving the Park’s hospitality success.
About You
We’re seeking a passionate and hands-on Sous Chef to join Carnaby’s team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced kitchen, leads by example, and focuses on quality, consistency, and creativity across café, restaurant, and function services. You will work alongside a skilled and supportive team, delivering exceptional food and memorable experiences.
Key Accountabilities
Directly responsible for hands-on food preparation and overseeing service operations.
Stay informed about trends and innovations within the hospitality industry.
Collaborate with marketing teams to promote the venue on social media, develop sales strategies, and attract new business.
Manage budgets, control costs, and ensure profitability while meeting revenue targets.
Coordinate with internal teams (kitchen, bar, and operations) to ensure high-quality service and venue success.
Oversee food quality control, maintain procedure manuals, update menus, and assist with front house operations as needed.
Recruit, train, and supervise kitchen staff, ensuring efficient service and adherence to venue standards.
Maintain high presentation and service standards across all spaces.
Ensure kitchen operations comply with health and safety regulations.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
Relevant professional certifications in kitchen operations or related fields.
5+ years of experience as a Sous Chef or a strong CDP ready to step up.
Understanding of food costs, menu planning, and hospitality operations.
Strong leadership and organizational skills to manage a diverse team and ensure smooth operations.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with guests, staff, and vendors.
Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

The new East Fremantle Community Park will be a vibrant space where sports, leisure, and recreation thrive, integrating an iconic WAFL club into the community under the mantra: “Gather Recreate Celebrate”. The venue features a café, full-service restaurant and bar, large function centre, and leisure activities for all ages, including a fitness centre, football oval, bowls greens, croquet greens, community garden, skate park, basketball court, and dog park.
