As ERIAS' project portfolio continues to grow in scale and complexity, they are seeking a Senior Environmental Consultant to join the Marine team.

This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys owning complex projects, leading technical delivery in marine and coastal environments, mentoring junior consultants, and building trusted, long‑term client relationships in challenging approval environments.

What you'll be doing In this senior role, you will lead or provide high‑level input across a range of environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) projects, including:

Acting as Project Manager or technical lead on ESIA and marine environmental projects

Applying and overseeing appropriate environmental sampling methods across water quality, sediment and biota; including sediment grab samplers, corers, oceanographic instrumentation (e.g. CTDs and current profilers) and biological sampling techniques

Designing marine environmental survey programmes for baseline studies, impact assessments and monitoring; selecting suitable approaches including transects, quadrats, diver‑based surveys, ROVs and remote sensing

Analysing, interpreting and presenting marine environmental and biological data to support assessments and decision‑making

Providing strategic advice, regulatory guidance, and high‑quality technical input to clients and internal teams

Liaising directly with clients, regulators, subconsultants, and stakeholders

Coordinating and participating in fieldwork programmes, including offshore and coastal surveys

Identifying risks and developing appropriate mitigation strategies

Leading or contributing to the preparation, review, and delivery of reports, proposals, and technical documentation

Managing project schedules, budgets, resources, and quality assurance

Mentoring and supporting junior consultants in their technical and professional development

Supporting business development activities and maintaining client relationships

Ensuring compliance with all statutory and company safety requirements

What we're looking for

Bachelor's degree in Marine Science, Marine Biology, Environmental Science, Engineering or a related discipline

Postgraduate studies or specialist technical training (advantageous)

5+ years' experience as an environmental consultant, with strong grounding in marine environments

Strong experience in environmental impact assessment and project delivery

Proven ability to manage complex projects with minimal supervision

Strong client, regulator, and stakeholder engagement skills

Excellent written communication and technical documentation capability

Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and support junior staff

Comfortable working on vessels

BOSIET certification (advantageous)

Proficiency in MS Office and general project management tools

Current driver's licence (desirable)

Who you are You thrive in complex, fast‑moving environments where high‑quality work matters. You bring initiative, sound judgement, and a pragmatic, solutions‑focused mindset. You're comfortable taking ownership, stepping into leadership roles, and contributing to both technical excellence and a positive team culture.

Why ERIAS

Work on some of the most interesting environmental and social impact projects across Australia, Papua New Guinea and the Pacific

Join a close‑knit, highly skilled team with real influence over project and business outcomes

Flexible working arrangements and a culture that values collaboration and professional growth

The opportunity to make a tangible impact across the marine, renewable energy, resources and infrastructure sectors

If you're ready to step into a senior consulting role where your marine expertise, judgement and leadership are genuinely valued, we'd love to hear from you.

Apply now. Applications close 5pm, Tuesday 12 May.
