This position assists the Crown Solicitor by acting as a solicitor in complex building and construction and commercial matters. In particular the position will oversee the Multipurpose Stadium procurement and ensure that the Macquarie Point Development Corporation commercial interests are protected and optimised.

About the Role
Reporting to the Project Director and supervised by a senior member of the Office of the Crown Solicitor, the senior Legal Practitioner role is a key part of the project team and has primary responsibility for overseeing the legal and governance management relating to the Multipurpose Stadium. Supported by the Office of the Crown Solicitor and external legal counsel you will oversee the Multipurpose Stadium procurement and associated procurements and deliver legal strategy and day-to-day management and ensure MPDC's commercial interests are protected and optimised.
As the senior Legal Practitioner based in the project office, you will influence and guide the project legal and governance management, working closely with the executive leadership team, site based project team, and specialist project advisors.
To be successful in this role you will be a respected legal advisor with experience in large, complex and novel infrastructure construction projects. You will be skilled at navigating complex environments, manage and mitigate risk, influence diverse stakeholders and have an outcome delivery approach.
Period of Appointment
Fixed term for 4 years from appointment.
Hours per fortnight
73.50 hours per fortnight - flexible options available.
Specific duties
* a variety of legal tasks associated with the running of the two stage RFT process, issue and departure tracking, responding to clarification queries, assisting with contract negotiation and drafting;
* contract administration and management tasks including reviewing claims and notices on behalf of the Principal;
* early dispute avoidance and resolution and in assisting in briefing external counsel if required;
* procurement and contract administration of ancillary contract such as the Goods Shed Relocation and Bulk Earthworks Contracts;
* ensuring compliance with State Policies and Projects (Macquarie Point Precinct) Order 2025, including liaising with the Solicitor General where required;
* drafting third party agreements in a variety of forms;
* general company secretarial tasks and preparation of issues papers to the MPDC board;
* preparation and review of advice and papers provide to the oversight committee and other governance forums;
* support on smaller procurements related to the Stadium project; and
* ensuring compliance with the Treasurer's Instructions;
* Admitted or eligible for admission as a Barrister or Practitioner of the Supreme Court of Tasmania.

* Pre-employment (National Police Record) checks for: Arson and fire setting, violent crimes and crimes against the person, sex-related offences, drug and alcohol related offences, crimes involving dishonesty, deception and/or conspiracy, making false declarations, malicious damage and destruction to property, serious traffic offences, crimes against public order or relating to the Administration of Law and Justice, Executive or the Legislative Power.
