We’re looking for an experienced Business Analysts (APS6 equivalent) to join a high‑performing team delivering complex digital initiatives within an Australian Government environment.
Role overview
* Estimated start date: Wednesday, 01 July 2026
* Contract duration: 12 months
* Extension options: Up to two extensions of 12 months each
* Experience level: APS6 equivalent
* Location: ACT
* Working arrangements: Onsite
* Flexible work: Remote arrangements may be considered on a case‑by‑case basis, subject to business needs. Candidates must clearly state their preferred work location if outside ACT/Canberra
* Maximum hours: 40 hours per week
* Security clearance: Must be able to obtain Baseline (Prefer Active Clearance )
About the role
You will work closely with stakeholders, product owners and technical specialists to analyse business needs and deliver fit‑for‑purpose digital solutions. The role involves defining requirements, analysing information flows and supporting delivery across complex ICT initiatives in an Agile environment.
Key duties and responsibilities
* Analyse and model current and future business processes and information management environments
* Analyse data‑related requirements, user pathways and information flows
* Conduct stakeholder engagement activities to gather and validate business requirements
* Collaborate with technical specialists to develop practical solutions to business problems
* Develop clear documentation including business requirements, business cases, functional and non‑functional specifications, process maps, user stories, service design artefacts, change management plans and reports
* Conduct investigations and technical analysis aligned with departmental policies and legislation
* Evaluate solution options and translate business needs into techno‑functional requirements
* Analyse proposed solutions from a strategic, whole‑of‑government perspective
* Support Agile delivery by developing high‑quality requirement artefacts for complex digital projects
Application requirements
Candidates must submit a one‑page pitch (up to 5,000 characters) addressing all selection criteria.
Essential criteria
* Proven experience facilitating workshops and developing business scenarios, process maps, data models and use cases
* Experience creating user stories and acceptance criteria for developers
* Demonstrated experience working on complex digital projects in an Agile environment
* Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
Desirable criteria
* Experience implementing Information Technology services
* Experience documenting requirements for Office technologies
* Experience using Azure DevOps for user story creation and acceptance criteria tracking
* Experience or knowledge of Dynamics 365 and/or Power Platform
