Role Summary

About the role:
Applications are invited for the role of the 2027 Endocrine & General Surgery Fellow, from suitably qualified senior surgical trainees who have obtained Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) or equivalent specialist qualification.
The role of the Endocrine & General Surgery Fellow is to have a committed interest in Endocrine Surgery, either as a specialist in the field or to increase knowledge in the field for general surgical practice.
The Fellow is expected to provide clinical management of Unit patients and referrals, including attendance at operating theatre sessions and outpatient clinics. It is also a requirement that the successful applicant will undertake administrative duties for the Unit under the supervision and direction of the Head of Unit or Consultant. The position is based at Footscray Hospital and includes a strong focus on emergency surgery.
About the Unit
There are six consultant surgeons in the General and Endocrine Surgical Unit, performing more than 100 endocrine surgery procedures each year, along with a variety of general surgical operations, including some breast surgery. Besides the Fellow, the Unit has an accredited surgical trainee, plus two interns.
Key responsibilities
* Provide leadership to the Junior Medical Staff (JMS) and assist in the coordination of education and training, particularly of surgical trainees, and the dissemination of information relating to Western Health and the RACS, in addition to clinical duties.
* The Fellow represents JMS interests by acting as a representative on committees such as the JMS Operations Management Committee, the JMS Post Graduate Medical Education Committee, Adverse Outcomes Committee and other relevant working parties.
* Participate in the recruitment and interviewing of Interns, HMO and Unaccredited Registrars applicants for the following year and assist in assigning appropriate rotations.
