Primary Objective
Analyse agency and whole of government budget and performance information and provide high level policy advice to
inform decision-making on across-government resourcing and investment issues, and development of the Territory
Government's annual budget papers and related publications.
Context statement
As a Senior Policy Analyst in the Budget Development team you will provide high level, evidence-based analysis and advice
to support the Territory's financial sustainability and efficient delivery of government outcomes. This includes collaborating
across government to develop and design policy solutions, regular agency and across-government performance monitoring,
undertaking research and preparing briefing materials for the Treasurer and Government and coordinating budget
publications in close collaboration with other areas of Treasury and government.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Analyse and evaluate agency policy proposals, including those that have resourcing implications.
1. Provide high level advice to Treasury Executive, the Treasurer and Government on issues and proposals with resourcing
and budgetary implications.
1. Develop and maintain effective inter-agency working relationships, including providing advice and guidance to agencies
on policy development, costings and the Budget development process.
1. Provide assistance with reviews and budget reform strategies and programs.
2. Provide guidance and support to other team members and play a significant role in divisional projects.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated strategic thinking, conceptual and analytical skills, and ability to provide evidence-based advice to inform
policy analysis and development.
2. Highly developed written and oral communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and
collaborate with others.
1. Demonstrated time management and organisational skills, including an ability to prioritise commitments, meet critical
deadlines while maintaining quality standards, and support other staff in this regard.
1. Proven ability to participate effectively in teams to achieve outcomes and function as an effective team member.
2. An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
Desirable
1. Relevant tertiary qualifications in finance, accounting, public policy, economics, commerce, law or a related discipline.
2. An understanding of policy development and the processes of Government.
