Senior Biomedical Engineer

- Classification: Biomedical Engineer Class 3

- Employment Type: Permanent, Full Time (80 hours per fortnight) with a monthly ADO

- Location: Warrnambool Campus

- Salary Range: $93,891 - $100,322.56 per annum, plus superannuation

South West Healthcare (SWH) is looking for a Senior Biomedical Engineer to join our dedicated team and play a key role in maintaining and advancing the performance and safety of medical equipment across our hospital and regional services.

This is more than just a technical role, it's an opportunity to make a real difference in community healthcare while contributing to exciting, large-scale initiatives, including:

- The $384 million Warrnambool Base Hospital re-development

- Implementation of a new medical device asset management system

- A major Electronic Health Record (EHR) upgrade

- Oversight of the new South West Local Health Service Network.

About the Role

As a Senior Biomedical Engineer, you will be based in coastal Warrnambool, combining a fulfilling career with the lifestyle benefits of South West Victoria.

You will be a valued member of the Biomedical Engineering Services team, ensuring the safe, effective, and compliant operation of critical medical technology.

Key Responsibilities:

- Maintain, calibrate, and repair a wide range of medical equipment, from general to high-acuity devices

- Provide expert advice on the selection, procurement, installation, and use of medical technologies

- Lead and support key projects, including redevelopment and asset management initiatives

- Conduct risk assessments, equipment evaluations, and ensure compliance with relevant standards

- Educate and support clinical and technical staff in the safe use of medical equipment

This role is central to delivering safe, high-quality healthcare to patients across our region.

What You'll Bring

- A degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, or related field

- 5+ years' experience in a biomedical or clinical engineering setting

- Technical training from leading manufacturers (e.g. GE, Philips, Draeger)

- Robust analytical, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills

- Proficiency in IT systems, including Windows and Microsoft Office

- Working knowledge of standards such as AS/NZS 3551, IEC 60601, and ISO 14791

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

- A current Australian Driver's Licence

Desirable:

- Experience with asset management or maintenance systems

- Supervisory or mentoring experience

- Familiarity with public health procurement and Victorian health regulations

- Understanding of medical device integration with EHR systems
