Project Director - Renewables

We are seeking an experienced Project Director to lead the end-to-end delivery of a portfolio of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across Australia's East Coast. This role will oversee the full project lifecycle - from late-stage development into construction, commissioning, and handover into operations - ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and on budget.
As Project Director, you will play a pivotal role in driving Australia's clean energy transition, working closely with investors, network providers, contractors, regulators, and internal leadership teams.
Key Responsibilities
* Oversee the delivery of multiple BESS projects concurrently, managing risks, schedules, budgets, and resources
* Drive EPC contracting strategies, procurement, construction, and commissioning, ensuring compliance with technical, environmental, and regulatory requirements
* Represent the business with external stakeholders, including AEMO, NSPs, government bodies, JV partners, landowners, and local communities
* Ensure cost control, risk management, and financial performance across the portfolio, reporting regularly to senior leadership and investors
* Lead and mentor a team of project managers, engineers, and consultants to achieve successful project outcomes
* Champion a strong safety culture and ensure projects meet statutory, environmental, and quality standards
* Provide input into project pipeline planning, technology selection, and continuous improvement across the portfolio
About You
* 10+ years' experience in project delivery within energy, renewables, infrastructure, or power generation
* Proven track record leading utility-scale renewable energy or storage projects (BESS experience highly regarded)
* Strong knowledge of Australian energy markets, NEM connection processes, and grid compliance requirements
* Demonstrated expertise in EPC contract negotiation and management
* Commercially astute with a strong grasp of project finance drivers, CAPEX/OPEX optimisation, and IRR/NPV impacts
* Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to engage at board, government, and community levels
* Degree in engineering, construction, or project management (or equivalent). MBA or chartered status desirable
