Overview
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Laboratory Manager to oversee the operations of our GeoEnergy & Storage Laboratory.
This part time (0.50 FTE), fixed term position for 3 years is based in Adelaide and supports cutting-edge research in underground hydrogen and CO2 storage by managing laboratory facilities, maintaining complex core flooding systems, and ensuring safe, efficient operations.
Based within the GeoEnergy and Storage Laboratory Facility, this role works closely with academic staff and postgraduates, providing expert technical support while maintaining and developing high-pressure, high-temperature lab systems integrated with imaging technologies such as NMR and X-Ray.
The position is ideal for candidates looking to build a technical career in a research-focused, collaborative environment with strong industry links and impactful outcomes in sustainable energy.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to work independently and collaboratively, managing the full range of laboratory functions, including:
- Equipment maintenance and procurement
- Safety compliance and risk management
- Experiment setup and execution
- Staff training and supervision
Qualifications and Experience
- Experience in laboratory operations/management and instrumentation in core flooding facilities
- Knowledge of procedures, regulations and standards relating to High Pressure and High Temperature core flood experiments
- Ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities
- Experience in designing and core flooding experiments
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel
- Strong attention to detail and computer/data acquisition competency
- Ability to prioritise tasks, follow instructions, and use initiative to solve problems independently and in a team
