The opportunity

The Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex (CDSCC) supports ground‐based spacecraft telecommunications as part of the international National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Deep Space Network, under contractual arrangements between NASA and the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO).

We are seeking a Facilities Technician – Grounds and Environment to join our Facilities team. In this role, you will contribute to the ongoing upkeep and performance of critical site infrastructure, grounds, and environmental systems that support mission operations.

You will work under limited direction, undertaking maintenance activities across a diverse range of facilities systems, while supporting contractors and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards.

Your high‐level duties will include:
* Maintain grounds, landscaping and environmental areas in line with site plans
* Operate and maintain plant and equipment (e.g. mowers, tractors, EWPs, forklifts)
* Perform basic building, vehicle and equipment maintenance and inspections
* Support excavation, concreting and installation works
* Monitor and assist with site systems (fuel, sewage and related infrastructure)
* Supervise contractors to ensure compliance with safety, security and site requirements
* Assist with work orders, maintenance planning and risk assessments
* Use systems to support procurement, contractor management and WHS
* Contribute to continuous improvement and a strong Zero Harm safety culture
Role particulars

Location: Tidbinbilla – Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex (CDSCC), ACT

Salary: AU$77,792 – AU$105,250 per annum plus Tracking Station Allowance of $139.16 per week, plus up to 15.4% superannuation (also eligible for fleet transport to & from site within a defined Canberra region)

Tenure & work schedule: Indefinite, full‐time on a 9‐day fortnightly schedule

Essential
* Certifications (current or ability to obtain within 3 months of employment):
o Working at Heights and Confined Spaces Training
o Elevated Work Platform (EWP)
o White Card
o Working with asbestos training
o Chemcert accreditation
* Experience with horticulture and/or grounds maintenance in an industrial maintenance environment.
* Previous experience with a range of power hand tools, mobile plant and equipment (e.g. skid steer, excavator, tractor, elevated work platforms and ride‐on mower).
* Ability to work effectively independently or as part of a diverse multi‐skilled team.
* Demonstrated willingness to learn new skills and work across a diverse range of tasks and activities.
* An Australian Class 'C' driver's licence (or equivalent).
Desirable Criteria
* Experience using Microsoft Office products.
* Truck licence.
* Experience with sewage and water treatment plants.
* Knowledge of environmental protection practices.
* Contractor management experience.
Eligibility
