Position Details
Title: Data Collection Officer
Rate: $45–$50 per hour
Contract: Temp – up to 18 months
Work Hours: Core business hour Monday to Friday, 8:30 am–4:30 pm
Location: Albany and surrounding areas – Cities of Albany, Bunbury and Busselton
Note: Working Holiday Visa (WHV) holders are eligible and welcome to apply.
Must Haves
- A mobile phone with good coverage within the survey areas mentioned above.
- Access to a vehicle (parking fines and/or traffic infringements are the responsibility of the Data Collection Officers); Data Collection Officers will be reimbursed for parking fees if they need to pay for parking in the field to undertake the survey. A vehicle logbook and per kilometre reimbursement form must be provided.
- Possess a current ‘C’ Class Western Australian driver’s licence which must remain valid for the duration of employment.
- Recent Police Clearance (in the last 12 months).
Duties
- Attend regular briefings with the Customer’s Representative via MS Teams and in‑person at the Bunbury and Albany offices, weekly or fortnightly as determined by the Customer.
- Proactively contact the Customer’s Representative to receive updates and a summary of the survey areas assigned for the upcoming period.
- Download survey packs (data packs and maps) onto a tablet provided by the Customer and complete a run‑sheet for daily and weekly activities. Tablets are equipped with mobile data plans to facilitate downloads, and data usage will be monitored.
- Tablets are configured to upload survey data to the Cloud; Data Collection Officers are not required to return to the office at the end of the day to transfer data.
- Capture and/or update pre‑populated data in the field such as trade name, land use classification, address, floor space and employment based on observations and answers provided by the staff and/or operators of the business being surveyed.
- Follow up with staff and/or business operators through face‑to‑face meetings, emails or phone calls if the business is too busy to assist at the time of the survey.
- Always have and show their Land Use Employment Survey ID card (specially made by the Customer for this role/survey); Data Collection Officers are strictly not allowed to work/survey without the ID card.
- While working in the field, communicate with the Customer Liaison Officer and Customer’s Representative by phone / MS Teams to advise their whereabouts for the day – location and start‑stop time.
- Inform the Customer Liaison Officer and Customer’s Representative when absent from work, such as due to illness or an unexpected event.
- Submit a daily timesheet (provided by the Contractor) accurately recording hours worked as per the Contractor’s instructions.
Skills
- Familiarity with the Survey Area is desirable.
- Ability to read and interpret maps.
- Good customer service skills with the ability to negotiate or resolve conflict.
- Valuable communication skills.
- Sound computer operating skills (able to operate a tablet or mobile devices), including Microsoft Office, Google Maps, desktop research skills; able to work independently and autonomously in a range of working environments including office, on‑site and home‑based.
