In the Asia Pacific region (SLR APAC), SLR has over 1,000 employees located throughout 24 offices. Our globally integrated Mining Advisory Group includes Geologists, Mining Engineers, Metallurgists, Geotechnical Engineers, Civil Engineers, and Environmental Scientists with extensive experience in the mining and exploration industries.
With team members in Australia, USA, Canada, Europe and Africa, SLR's Mining Advisory Group provides advisory services to the mining sector at all stages of project development from exploration and resource evaluation through scoping, prefeasibility and feasibility studies, financing, permitting, construction, operation, and closure and rehabilitation. We provide support to major mining companies, mid-caps, junior mining and exploration companies, financial institutions, governments, law firms and individual investors on the technical and commercial aspects of mineral property development and have extensive experience in all commodities and mining areas of the world.
We are seeking an experienced and inspiring Team Leader – Geology to lead our APAC geology practice. This senior leadership role oversees team capability, technical excellence, project delivery, and market growth across a diverse and geographically dispersed group of geologists.
You will shape the strategic direction of the team, steward technical standards, coordinate delivery across multiple countries and time zones, and play a key role in business development. As a trusted advisor, you will also work closely with global geology leaders and cross‑disciplinary colleagues to support aligned methodologies, consistent quality, and seamless collaboration.
This role is ideal for a technically strong, people-focused geological professional with a passion for coaching, leading, and driving continuous improvement across a high-performing consulting practice.
Job tasks and responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
* Lead, mentor, and inspire a high‑performing APAC geology team across multiple countries.
* Set clear vision, priorities, and operating rhythms aligned with regional and global objectives.
* Support talent management: recruiting, onboarding, coaching, and succession planning.
* Build an inclusive, collaborative, and psychologically safe team culture.
* Allocate resources and balance workloads to ensure efficient project delivery.
Business Development & Market Growth
* Own revenue growth for the APAC geology portfolio, including pipeline management and opportunity development.
* Build strong, trusted client relationships and act as a key point of contact for major accounts.
* Lead proposal development including scoping, costing, resourcing, and risk management.
* Represent the organisation at conferences, webinars, and industry events.
Project Delivery & Technical Quality
* Establish and maintain high technical standards for geological consulting across the region.
* Provide expert peer review, QA/QC oversight, and approve key client deliverables.
* Ensure compliance with reporting codes including JORC, NI 43‑101, SAMREC, KCMI, and others.
Cross‑Regional & Cross‑Disciplinary Collaboration
* Coordinate with global geology leaders to maintain consistency in standards and methodologies.
* Support integrated, multi-disciplinary delivery across mining engineering and other practices.
Commercial & Financial Management
* Maintain rolling financial forecasts, monitor project performance, and address variances.
* Ensure cost‑effective and compliant vendor and subcontractor management.
* Support diversification, innovation, and other go‑to‑market initiatives.
Skills and experience
Education & Professional Credentials
* Bachelor's degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, Geoscience, or related field (required).
* Postgraduate qualifications (MSc or PhD in Geology, Geostatistics, or related field) highly regarded.
* Professional accreditation such as AusIMM CP or AIG RPGeo.
Technical Skills & Experience
* 15+ years' experience in resource geology across consulting and/or mining environments.
* Strong expertise in:
o Geological modelling and interpretation
o Geostatistics, variography, and estimation techniques
o Mineral Resource classification and reporting
o QA/QC, data governance, and auditability
* Demonstrated peer review capability and experience overseeing complex multi‑site projects.
Leadership & Commercial Skills
* Proven experience leading and developing technical teams.
* Strong client relationship‑building capabilities and an established industry network.
* Skilled communicator with the ability to influence, negotiate, and manage sensitive commercial issues.
