Payroll Accountant / Management Accountant

We are currently recruiting for a Payroll Management Accountant to join one of Australia's most reputable and highly regarded design and construction contractors.

Established for over 25 years, our client has grown into a national business with a turnover exceeding $100 million and a workforce of 170+ employees across Australia.

This is an excellent opportunity for a driven and detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The role offers a diverse, hands-on hybrid position, combining payroll oversight with management accounting responsibilities—ideal for someone who enjoys variety, ownership, and being kept busy.

Reporting to the Financial Controller you will play an integral position as part of the finance team of 6 with responsibilities consisting of;

* Management Accounting/Reporting - Assist with the preparation of monthly profit & loss, balance sheet and end of month reports.
* Journals and balance sheet reconciliations, Intercompany Accounts.
* Year End and Statutory Reporting.
* Check actual expenses against budget and confirm reasons for variances.
* Review and approval of accounts payable invoices and invoice runs.
* Processing payroll
* Ensuring accurate and timely month-end and year-end processing including reporting and reconciliations;
* Reporting & payroll analytics.
* Payment of payroll tax, PAYG, Superannuation.
* The interpretation of individual contracts, Awards and Enterprise Agreements.
* Managing internal and external payroll enquiries.
* Setting up new starters & processing leavers.
* Job Costing/Reporting/Journals.
* Liaising with Project Managers.

To be successful in the position you will bring the following skills;

* Experience in management accounts and payroll for a similar sized business.
* Experience of working in the Construction/Engineering or similar industries would be advantageous.
* Advanced communication and query skills.
* Excellent attention to detail.
* Strong time management and the ability to work autonomously.
* Ability to perform under pressure in fast paced busy positions.
* Strong software skills - Jobpac will be highly regarded. Intermediate to Advanced Excel skills required.
