MB Bank's Legal and Compliance department is looking for a Senior Legal Counsel – Stream Lead to join its high performing- team. You'll have demonstrated experience in providing clear, technical, strategic legal advice regarding regulatory matters, including in relation to notices, breaches, reporting obligations and remediation programs. You will lead a small team and report directly to the General Counsel. What you'll be doing
As a Senior Legal Counsel – Stream Lead, you will:
* Manage the timely delivery of work across the Stream;
* Provide technical legal advice regarding regulatory matters affecting the bank, including preparing breach advices and responses to regulatory notices;
* Build and maintain strong working knowledge of laws and regulatory expectations that apply to the bank and assist with the monitoring and implementation of regulatory changes;
* Manage the preparation of breach reports and remediation plans to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements;
* Support and advise relevant stakeholders regarding control uplift initiatives and rectification activities;
* Assist with the management and monitoring of compliance frameworks, the identification of risks, trends and improvement opportunities;
* Ensure direct reports are appropriately supported and supervised;
* Contribute to the broader activities of the Legal and Compliance department under the supervision of the General Counsel.
What you'll bring
* A law degree and admitted to practice in NSW;
* 7–10+ years PQE within financial services or an equivalent private practice setting, ideally in retail banking;
* Excellent technical legal skills and the ability to understand, investigate and resolve complex issues efficiently;
* Proven experience in advising on issues subject to the reportable situations regime is essential;
* Excellent oral and written communication skills;
* A collaborative approach and solutions-focused mindset;
* Strong digital capability and comfort with evolving legal and compliance technologies;
* A people leader who invests in the development of their team, who is also able action the work themselves where appropriate;
* A proactive, efficient and time sensitive approach to actioning work;
* A desire to build strong relationships with stakeholders across the bank and the ability to clearly communicate advice regarding complex issues.
