Priority Population Immunisation Project Officer

Public Health Unit

About the role

The Priority Population Immunisation Program (PPIP) in Western NSW Local Health District aims to improve vaccination rates among groups with low coverage or facing barriers to vaccination. This includes people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities and those with chronic illnesses.

Life at Western NSW Local Health District is rewarding, progressive and diverse. We have built a collaborative, people-focused culture. Our vision, Healthier Rural People - Thriving Communities, provides a benchmark for our partnership and leadership approach to improving the health and wellbeing of people living in regional and remote areas of New South Wales.

The role of the Public Health Unit is to identify, prevent and minimise public health risks to the community: these risks may be infectious, chemical or radiological in nature. They may be caused by other humans, by animals and by the inanimate environment.

Public health staff work closely with general practitioners, community nurses and hospital-based clinicians, pathology laboratories, schools and childcare centres, with local councils and with other government agencies to protect the public health. The team also respond to complaints from the public concerning significant risks to public health.
